GPT-4 — trustworthy ally or job snatcher?

As you probably caught, we saved you from a long read about summing up our year. But here we have another reading activity about one of the most interesting phenomena of the previous year. Buckle up 😅!

In the design and development realm, AI took its place. Just a bit ago, ChatGPT hit its one-year milestone, and then in spring the new version GPT-4 was released. So we're trying to look back and tell what it was for us.

The power of AI might spook some, but we are here not to run away from possibilities, but to use it for boosting our outcomes, yeah? Let's dive into what the new Chat GPT 4 brings to the game 💁

1. Wider communication

Now it can not only text, it can see, hear, and speak. But it does it only when you ask, unlike those buzzing friends. (Just kidding, we love our chatty pals). Give just a photo of your products, and it’ll help you to create the menu for the lunch.

2. Creative buddy

Creative and technical writing tasks are no longer a deal for GPT-4. It can write a song in the Bob Dylan style, or a text with Hemingway’s resistance.

3. Longer context

With the TikTok boom reading big texts becomes a challenge, but not for GPT-4. It can handle texts with over 25k words. It’s like a single story about Sherlock Holmes.

4. Pictures generating

Oh, and get this, GPT-4 can even paint — perfect for lazy designers. Joking aside: DALL·E 3 (the latest image-gen AI) is built in Chat GPT 4.

Images are more accurate, cause DALL·E 3 is more sensitive to text. The more context you give, the more correct your image will be. If you don’t like some part of a pic, ask to make changes just in a few words.

5. Brainstorming partner

It can give pieces of advice in the style you want: from short sentences to detailed paragraphs. Pretty handy when you're rocking a solo project but need some input.

6. Canva Plugin

It sets you up to whip out logos, images, and videos for SMM posts. You can customize it directly in Canva, using all its tools. Of course, we ain't saying dumping all the work to this plugin, but for laying down some basic patterns, it can be good enough.

7. Quite a good developer

GPT-4's got some skills in the coding realm. For instance, it can create a code for a simple game, like Snake or Pong.

P.S. GPT-4 Turbo

What’s next? In November GPT-4 Turbo was announced. It updated the knowledge base to April 2023.

✅ Prompts can be much bigger, up to 128k tokens (now you can upload the whole Harry Potter book in a single prompt).

✅ And now, even without knowing programming languages, users would create their GPTs, built on the company's knowledge base.

✅ Devs would be able to create specific formats (eg "always respond in XML").

✅ GPT-4 Turbo understands and responds in JSON format. This is a slick tool for web apps dealing with data transfer.

✅ New API Assistants can be used either in coding assistance or in planning a working week.
